(b) The sale or transfer of a firearm shall be exempt from subdivision (a) if both of the following apply:

(1) The purchaser or transferee owns a gun safe that meets the standards set forth in Section 23650. Gun safes shall not be required to be tested and therefore may meet the standards without appearing on the Department of Justice roster.

(2) The purchaser or transferee presents an original receipt for purchase of the gun safe, or other proof of purchase or ownership of the gun safe as authorized by the Attorney General, to the firearms dealer. The dealer shall maintain a copy of this receipt or proof of purchase with the dealer’s record of sales of firearms.

(1) The purchaser or transferee purchases an approved safety device no more than 30 days prior to the day the purchaser or transferee takes possession of the firearm.

(2) The purchaser or transferee presents the approved safety device to the firearms dealer when picking up the firearm.

FFL TRANSFERS

  • Please review all the documents we need from you and the FFL shipping the firearm before sending the firearm to us. Missing documents costs time and money to correct and there are separate fees associated with missing or incorrect information, so please be mindful of what is required.

  • For us to receive an FFL transfer, you are required to come to the store and provide the information for the transaction and pay the associated fees prior to sending the firearm to us. This allows us to confirm the firearm is compliant and collect your information to expedite the process. Any FFL transfers failing to notify us in advance will be subject to a $50.00 fee. This will delay the transaction.

  • We require an invoice proving that sales tax and FET have been paid. If no invoice is provided or sales tax and FET have not been paid, we are required to collect the appropriate amount as well as a $50 penalty fee. This will delay the transaction.

  • We must receive a copy of the FFL and a copy of the CFLC Letter with an AI number with the shipment. Failure to provide either will result in a $50.00 penalty fee. This will delay the transaction.

  • We will notify you when the firearm is received, logged and ready to be processed. Please do not repeatedly call asking if your firearm is ready as this will delay the transaction.

  • The fee to receive an FFL transfer for a single firearm is $150.00 and, along with any penalty or credit card fees, is subject to sales tax and the 11% FET. Any other firearms or accessories may be subject to additional fees.

  • The DROS / background check fee is $37.19.

  • There is a 3% credit card fee. Cash has no additional fee.

  • We will store the firearm for 14 days from the day we notify you of its arrival at no charge. For each day past the 14 day period, a $5 per day storage fee will be assessed.

  • If you either fail to complete the transaction within 6 months or not pay the associated fees, the firearm will be considered abandoned and sold to recover our costs.

  • If you decide you do not want to complete the transaction through us after we have received the firearm, you are responsible for all receiving, logging, storage and shipping fees associated with the transfer. The cost of returning a firearm is determined on a case basis, with many factors such as paperwork and shipping affecting the price.

  • If the firearm or any accessories accompanying the firearm are not legal or able to be transferred to you, you are responsible for any fees associated with returning the items to the original FFL. Failure to pay these fees will result in us retaining these items to cover any associated costs of the transaction.

  • You are required to have all the necessary documents to complete a firearm transaction. If you are unsure of what is required, please review our store guidelines page to confirm that your documents are correct and valid.

  • We are not responsible for items that were damaged during shipping or misrepresented by the original seller. By sending us a firearm you agree to these terms.

WARNING

Firearms must be handled responsibly and securely stored to prevent access by children and other unauthorized users. California has strict laws pertaining to firearms, and you may be fined or imprisoned if you fail to comply with them. Visit the website of the California Attorney General at https://oag.ca.gov/firearms for information on firearm laws applicable to you and how you can comply.

Prevent child access by always keeping guns locked away and unloaded when not in use. If you keep a loaded firearm where a child obtains and improperly uses it, you may be fined or sent to prison.

If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, please call the national suicide prevention lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

(1) It shall be displayed in its entirety on the principal display panel of the firearm’s package, and on any descriptive materials that accompany the firearm.

Imports & FFL Transfers:

  • Pre-Arrival Requirement: You MUST come to the store, provide transaction info, and pay fees BEFORE the firearm is shipped. Failure to do so incurs a $50 fee.

  • Sales Tax & FET: Invoice showing these paid is required. If not, you’ll have to pay them plus a $50 penalty.

  • FFL & CFLC Letter: Copies of both (with AI number on CFLC) must be included with the shipment, or a $50 penalty applies.

  • Notification: You’ll be notified when the firearm is ready. Avoid repeated calls.

  • Fees: $150 for a single firearm, plus DROS ($37.19), and 3% credit card fee (cash is free). Subject to sales tax and 11% FET. Additional fees may apply for other items.

  • Storage: 14 days free storage after notification, then $5/day.

  • Abandonment: Firearm considered abandoned and sold after 6 months of non-completion or non-payment.

  • Transaction Cancellation: You’re responsible for all receiving, logging, storage, and return shipping fees if you decide not to complete the transfer after the firearm arrives.

  • Illegal/Non-Transferable Items: You’re responsible for the return shipping fees. Non-payment leads to the items being retained.

  • Your Responsibility: Ensure you have all required documents.

  • Shipping Damage/Misrepresentation: The dealer is not responsible.

  • Agreement: Sending a firearm implies agreement with these terms.

This is a comprehensive policy designed to ensure legal and smooth firearm transfers. It’s important for both buyers and sellers to carefully review and understand these requirements.
